Pascal T. MacLellan Reber (Bydandpiper), an officer in the United States Army, has been learning the intricacies of the Great Highland Bagpipe since September 29, 1993 and currently plays in
Grade 2 (Eastern United States Pipe Band Association). He is a successful solo and band competitor and an accomplished instructor. Reber has been an active member of numerous pipe bands over the years including the City of McPherson Pipe Band (Grade 5), Kansas, led by P/M Ty Kaufman, the Palmetto Pipes & Drums (Grade 4) of Columbia, South Carolina, under the direction of P/M Billy DuBose, the City of Greenville Pipes & Drums (Grade 4), South Carolina, under P/M Nicholas Williams, the Montreat Scottish Pipes & Drums, North Carolina, led by P/M Joe Bailey, the Charleston Police Pipes and Drums (Grade 2), South Carolina, under the leadership of P/M Jim Dillahey, the Heidelberg & District Pipes and Drums (Grade 3), Germany, under the direction of P/M Marko Bieck, and the Tucson & District Pipe Band (Grade 5), led by P/M Mike Brollini. Reber currently plays with the Charleston Pipe Band (Grade 3) led by P/M JD Ingraham. From 2000 to 2001 Reber lived in Aberdeen, Scotland, where he conducted research on the Gordon Highlanders and refined his skills on the national instrument at The Piping Centre in Glasgow under Gordon Walker, Roderick McLeod, William Morrison, and Greg Wilson. Reber played with the Portlethen & District Pipe Band (Grade 3) under the leadership of P/M Alan Gray during his time in the northeast of Scotland. From 2003 to 2005 Reber was the Director of Piping Education in Columbia, SC, and came up with a curriculum that has been praised by some of the greatest piping authorities in North America (among them, the late P/M Ed Neigh). Since 2005 Reber has been studying under Sandy Jones, the former Pipe Major of the United States Air Force Band and co-founder, with the late John MacFadyen, of the North American Academy of Piping & Drumming. In late 2013 Reber also started taking lessons via Skype from some of the world's greatest pipers such as P/M Robert Mathieson. In 2011 Reber competed at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, with the Heidelberg & District Pipes and Drums finishing 7th out of 52 bands in Grade 4b. Reber's list of solo piping engagements (weddings, funerals, parades, church services, patriotic events, etc.) over the years numbers in the hundreds.
