Teaching my son Owen...

Pascal Reber, as many of you know, is an accomplished Grade 2 piper. Since he moved from Columbia, he's been taking private lessons from Sandy Jones almost weekly for the last several years which has helped him to achieve competitive success and develop impeccable finger technique and execution. He's also innately one of the most inspired teachers I've ever known. He was the beginning instructor, motivator and guiding light for many current players in the band and elsewhere (thinking of Richard Hodgkiss, Matt Davis, David Martin, John Hart, and others), and has a way of helping students focus, set and achieve goals in music.

I've taught numerous students how to play the Great Highland Bagpipe over the years. I'm very strict in my instruction and only accept people who are really interested and motivated to learn.

I reserve the right to drop a student at any time if I see that he/she is not serious about learning.

Individual and group lessons are held at my house.

Please note that payment is due after each lesson (no exception!)

Fee for Individual Lessons

I'm available in between lessons to answer any questions that a student might have via Skype. This service requires the download of Skype (if you don't have it yet) and a webcam. Please get in touch with me for more information. (Be aware that I will not give lessons over the internet. I will only provide a student with extra help with the material that has been covered during the previous lesson). [Please add $5.00 to the fee of the next lesson each time you use this service].

Sandy Jones' Beginning the Bagpipe (left) as well as practice chanters (right) and other
piping supplies and Highland wear can be ordered from Henderson's.

Please click on the video below to listen to how a practice chanter sounds like. I've recorded the scale, the scale with a G gracenote in front of each note and the first part of a tune called High Road to Gairloch.

Please click on the link below to take a look at the curriculum that I've come up with to teach the Great Highland Bagpipe. This particular curriculum--which has been refined over the course of several years--has been praised by some of the greatest piping authorities in North America (among them P/M Ed Neigh).
